We are aware that there is an environmental cost for us to trade as a business, so we are actively moving towards sustainability in both big and small aspects of the brand.

At First Base, we aim to consistently reduce and hopefully one day, eliminate that environmental cost.

We aren’t saying that we’re perfect, but we are saying that we care and are constantly implementing new ways of working to reduce our environmental impact and actively give back.

How you ask?

Let us tell you.

So, we researched high and low for a more sustainable solution and eventually landed on biodegradable plastics. We are stoked to be able to say that all of our poly bags are made from D2W biodegradable plastic, which will degrade completely within 3-5 years and leave no harmful traces in the environment.
Read up about D2W here.

The other aspect of packaging we have sought to improve is the bag your online orders are received in. We have replaced these traditional plastic bags with compostable bags or biodegradable courier satchels from The Better Packaging Co. that are tougher, waterproof and flexible. Made from renewal plants and PBAT they're not only pretty to look at but, but they're super eco-friendly! You can read up about how our packaging works here.

While we were at it, we also moved over to recycled paper for all our swing tags, invoices, care cards and even the string on our swing tags. So, you can close the loop and recycle your entire order.  Hell yeah!

We love a classic white tee, so it was a no brainer for us to make the switch to 100% certified organic cotton.

The cotton we use is grown in Indore, India and exported in its’ raw form to China where it is then spun into yarn. It is then inspected & assessed according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) & certified by the Control Union Certifications. This helps to ensure complete transparency and quality in our production cycle.

Organic Cotton is something that we believe in, not only does it use less water in its growing process, it eliminates the harmful chemicals and toxins associated with regular cotton. We believe that these benefits are valuable to the long-term health of our environment and the farmers.

In addition to using organic cotton, all of our coloured basics use GOTS dyes and inks, so you can shop our gear knowing that you’re supporting a product that is legit.

We are stoked to be able to deliver a selection of high-performance activewear in 78% recycled nylon.

Econyl is an innovative fibre made from products containing nylon that have reached the end of their days. Things like old fishing nets, wetsuits and industrial plastics are rescued from ocean beds and recycled into a durable yarn.
Zero-waste? Yes please!

So not only does our activewear do good things for your workout and street cred, it’s doing good for the environment too. Yew!

This epic plant grows in tropical climates and is super hardy, not needing pesticides or herbicides to grow well. It is one of the fastest growing plants and once harvested it can replenish itself within a year. Pretty cool right?

It’s produced without the use of toxic chemicals & no polluting residues remain in the cloth when it finally wears out.

There are so many benefits to wearing bamboo, it’s breathable & thermo regulating, a natural UV protectant, completely biodegradable and antibacterial.

Not to mention it’s SOFT AS F*CK.

Did you know that only around 12% of garments donated to charity in Australia are actually purchased? The rest of those garments unfortunately typically end up in land fill.

As a brand our passion for launching VINTAGE stems from our deep connection to sustainability and we are excited to share our monthly finds with you. Instead of only producing new garments, we are committed to scouring and sourcing for our favourite pre loved items so we can help keep these iconic pieces out of land fill and get them back where they belong - in your wardrobe.

The 1st of every month will see an online and instore release of these pieces to our customers - with just one of each piece up for grabs, it’s first in best dressed, literally.

This initiative centres around a sustainably sourced collection that reinvents and repurposes garments to make them right for right now.

As we continue our journey into sustainability one of our goals for the coming year is to reduce the volume of garments we produce and to ensure that we limit and reduce the wastage that occurs around garment production. With this in mind the concept for RENEW was born and Capsule 1.0 is the first instalment.

Limited edition - with just 20 pieces per style created, this collection utilises rediscovered remnants, trims and hand worked techniques to restyle each piece. The hand worked treatments applied by our designer add a richness and uniqueness to every style with no two pieces being the same.
