Duality Pole said STRIP DOWN, SLIP IN. And that we did (Well, Ali did).
We stepped into the lion's den with Duality Pole co-founder Mimi, stripped down and learnt some pretty impressive (basic stuff) pole tips and tricks while getting the lowdown on Mimi herself.

WHAT IS DUALITY ABOUT?
Duality is a pole dancing studio which was born out of the want to create a fun, safe and sexy place where anybody, no matter their identifiers, could feel at home. Sydney is one of the most saturated pole dancing markets in the world, so it was really important to my amazing business partner, Chloe, and me, to make sure we were offering a space, experience and culture which set us apart. It’s a work out like no other, but even more an amazing community which is unmatched. We nod to pole dancing’s beginnings in the clubs by keeping lighting low and beats loud, we get sweaty with cardio, challenge your strength with new tricks and your mind with our signature fun, sexy and intricate choreography. Courses run for 8 weeks to really give you a proper stint at exploring that sensual side of you. After 8 weeks you're addicted, and next minute you're 5 years down the track and burning in places you never knew existed.
WHY DO YOU POLE DANCE?
I pole dance for a lot of reasons! First off, it’s fucking fun.
I get to strut around in 8” heels almost every night. It’s an incredible workout for your body while also completely transforming your mind and perception of your ability. It gives me this inherent confidence in every part of my life because I'm like - well... I can flip upside down on a pole in cute activewear with huge shoes on. This *insert intimidating event here* will be a breeze. I've always danced, it's a release and a shake off of the day that makes me feel powerful and sexy. I pump the music, turn the lights to whatever colour I'm vibing and just get lost in the beats. In these 'turbulent times' as we all like to say... it's been a real saviour.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN POLE DANCING?
I've pole danced for almost 12 years... which is over a third of my life. WILD. It's a part of my identity now... and one which I'm so incredibly proud of.
FAVE POLE MOVE/ SIGNATURE MOVE?
There are so many gorg pole moves that I'm obsessed with. I'm known around town as a bit of a flexibility queen - so anything which utilises that. I have a move which I made up, called (with absolutely no shock here) a croissant - not only because I'm obsessed with croissants (I have one tattooed on me) but it kind of makes that same, delicious moon shape. I also love an eagle, and the simplicity of a BEAUTIFULLY executed inside leg hang.
FAVE WORKOUT PLAYLIST?
I have a playlist... Duality Warmup, which is literally my rolling warm up mix. It changes every few days, and I can put that shit on shuffle no matter where I am and it provides the perfect vibes. You never know what's going to come next... Rufus Du Sol? Britney? Fatboy Slim? Celine Dion? The anticipation is unmatched, ha.
GO TO ACTIVEWEAR PIECE?
Well, you can't see me in anything other than the Foundation Cross Back Bra. It's supportive, sexy and covers all the right places... There's a lot of activewear out in the world - yet I think on any one day I'd see at least 3 people sporting it at Duality. If you don't have one, it's about time you do.
NAME ONE FAMOUS PERSON (PAST OR PRESENT) WHO YOU'D LOVE TO TRAIN/ POLE DANCE WITH + WHY?
Ooft, what a hard question. I'm so happy getting to dance alongside the souls who frequent Duality every day - but... I'd love to jam out with FKA Twigs. She's already a dancer, so I'd more so just like to be around that cool energy.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET MOTIVATED FOR THE DAY?
Hmm. Meditate... charge my crystals... drink celery juice with a shot of the blood of my enemies. *winking awkwardly*. None of those things. I'm a real night owl, so I'd rather stay up until 4am than get up at 5am (though 5am starts are often necessary with early classes) so mornings are usually groggy and slow. I work a normal job alongside my studio, so I usually roll my body out of bed and make a coffee and sip multiple cups while I face my day. Coffee and food and the dreams of when I'm one day able to take a day off. But, until then, I'm pretty damn lucky that I'm able to do what I love most, alongside my best friend, every single day.
